Manoj Bajpayee’s latest film, Governor, takes audiences back to one of the most turbulent chapters in India’s economic history. Directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar, the film is set during the 1991 financial crisis, when the country was staring at the possibility of bankruptcy and facing intense economic and political pressure. After its theatrical release, Governor has now moved to streaming.

Governor stars Manoj Bajpayee as Ramanan, a newly appointed RBI Governor who finds himself at the centre of an unprecedented national crisis. Adah Sharma and Noushad Mohamed Kunju also play key roles, with Paritosh Sand, Jaywant Wadkar, Madhoo Shah, Rajeev Gaursingh and Devaang Bagga rounding out the cast.
Chinmay D. Mandlekar directs the film, which is produced by Sunshine Pictures Ltd. Drawing inspiration from real events, the film uses the economic crisis of 1991 as the foundation for its story.
Governor Plot
The film follows Ramanan as he takes charge of the Reserve Bank of India at a time when the country is dangerously close to financial collapse. With very little time to find a way out, he is forced to navigate political pressure, public anger, internal conflicts and betrayal while trying to protect the country from an economic disaster.

More than a financial crisis drama, Governor focuses on the personal cost of taking such a responsibility. As Ramanan faces one obstacle after another, the story explores his determination, courage and willingness to make difficult choices when the stakes could not be higher.
