What surprised — and what many felt should have been there
The biggest standout is that One Battle After Another leads all films with a whopping nine nominations — positioning it as a frontrunner this awards season.
On the TV side, The White Lotus dominated with six nominations, underlining its continued strength and acclaim.
There were also pleasant surprises among acting nods: for instance, performers like Julia Roberts — usually considered a big-name star rather than a critics’ darling — earned a nomination for her role in After the Hunt.
Similarly, the inclusion of international and animated films — and strong recognition for musical, non-English and animated categories — highlights how global and varied this year’s field truly is.
What felt like snubs
Despite its commercial and cultural visibility, Wicked: For Good was notably absent from the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, even though its stars earned acting nominations and its soundtrack secured a Best Original Song nod.
Also overlooked: several high-profile actors and productions many assumed would make the cut. For example, Sydney Sweeney in & as Christy— despite strong buzz — failed to land a nomination.
Moreover, some celebrated projects — particularly certain popular TV shows and streaming hits — seemed to be shut out entirely, suggesting that even mainstream success doesn’t guarantee recognition from the Globe voters.
Lastly, some films that many expected to contend in technical categories — such as score or screenplay — ended up overlooked, which may reflect the competitiveness and broad scope of this year’s field.
When and where to watch
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled for 11 January 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The show will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser.
The live telecast will air on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+ — giving global viewers a chance to tune in.
