PVR INOX has launched Leh–Ladakh’s first-ever multiplex, a 2-screen property at Solar Colony, Saboo, along the Leh–Manali Bypass Road, developed under its FOCO (Franchise Owned, Company Operated) model. This historic opening finally brings a premium theatrical experience to one of India’s most visually stunning yet cinematically underserved regions. India’s Highest Multiplex!

For years, Kashmir and Leh–Ladakh were known for breathtaking landscapes but lacked cinema infrastructure. Since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, that narrative has steadily changed. Following INOX’s Srinagar opening in 2024, Leh now joins the cinema map — and in spectacular fashion.

At 11,500 feet above sea level, PVR Leh is now India’s highest multiplex. The venue is equipped with 2K projection, Dolby 7.1 sound, and Next-Gen 3D, supported by specially engineered audio systems designed to deliver immersive sound even at extreme altitude — matching the experience of top-tier urban cinemas.
The opening titles reflect ambition and scale, with Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire And Ash welcoming audiences. The property also introduces Leh’s first organised food court, featuring national and international QSR brands — positioning the multiplex as a social and entertainment hub for locals, tourists, and members of the armed forces.
Importantly, this launch aligns with a larger national mission to build more cinema screens across India. Despite being one of the world’s biggest film-producing nations, India remains far behind countries like the USA (45,000+ screens) and China (nearly 1 lakh screens). Industry leaders including Ajay Bijli, along with filmmakers and producers like Aamir Khan, Kunal Kohli and Siddharth Roy Kapur, have repeatedly stressed the urgent need for more theatres to grow footfalls and strengthen cinema culture.
PVR INOX plans aggressive expansion, aiming for around 200 new screens by 2027, focusing heavily on South India, Tier-2/3 cities, with a significant chunk (around 100 screens) planned for FY2025-26, supported by a Rs 400 crore investment to boost screen count towards 2,000 total screens and capture untapped markets with diverse offerings.
With 1,774 screens across 356 properties in 112 cities spanning India and Sri Lanka, PVR INOX’s Leh launch isn’t just symbolic — it’s a step toward closing India’s screen gap.
Cinema has finally reached the roof of the country — and it’s only going higher.
