Based on James Clavell’s iconic 1975 novel, Shōgun transported viewers into the political, cultural and spiritual turbulence of 17th century Japan. Clavell himself was a British Naval Officer during World War II and a prisoner of war under the Japanese Empire – experiences that shaped his deep, complex portrayals of Japanese and Chinese cultures. His other works – Tai-Pan, King Rat, Gai-Jin, Noble House and Whirlwind – form an interconnected saga, with Noble House previously adapted into a 1988 mini series starring Pierce Brosnan.
