With Clayface now in theaters, DC Studios is gearing up for another busy phase under James Gunn’s leadership. The R-rated body horror film, starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, brings a darker side of Gotham City to the big screen. Although it wasn’t part of Gunn’s original Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters announcement in January 2023, it has become the third movie and sixth overall release in the new DC Universe (DCU).
Looking ahead, DC Studios has two separate slates to build on. The main DCU will continue developing its connected superhero universe, while Elseworlds will tell stories set outside that continuity. Together, these projects include six upcoming DCU movies and five Elseworlds films, with several HBO television shows also in the pipeline.
All 6 Upcoming Movies in James Gunn’s DCU
Man of Tomorrow
Following Clayface, DC Studios will return to superhero action with Man of Tomorrow, scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. James Gunn will direct the sequel to Superman, which is also expected to serve as the DCU’s first major crossover event.
David Corenswet will return as Superman, while Nicholas Hoult reprises his role as Lex Luthor. This time, the two enemies will have to put their differences aside to face a much bigger threat: Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.
Several familiar characters are also expected to join the story, including members of the Justice Gang, Supergirl, and John Stewart. Meanwhile, Andor star Adria Arjona has reportedly joined the film in a mysterious role, adding to the speculation surrounding the sequel.
Savage Hunters
One of DC Studios’ reported priorities is Savage Hunters, a project centred on the unlikely pairing of Deathstroke and Bane. The script has been in development since September 2024, with Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton attached. Peacemaker filmmaker Greg Mottola has also reportedly been considered to direct.
There was previously speculation that Reacher star Alan Ritchson might play Slade Wilson, better known as Deathstroke. However, he doesn’t appear to have signed on, leaving the casting of both the skilled mercenary and the powerful Bane unresolved.
Plot details remain under wraps, and even the reported title has yet to be officially confirmed. One theory suggests the film could be set around Salvation, the metahuman prison associated with Rick Flag Sr. Whether that turns out to be the setting remains to be seen.
Wonder Woman
A new Wonder Woman movie is also in development, with Ana Nogueira, who wrote Supergirl, reportedly working on the screenplay. The project comes amid reports that DC Studios has moved away from its previously planned Themyscira prequel series, Paradise Lost.
There’s also speculation that Adria Arjona could make her DCU debut as Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow before leading her own standalone film. However, neither her casting as the Amazon princess nor the character’s potential appearance in the Superman sequel has been officially confirmed.
Nogueira’s involvement has attracted attention following the mixed reception surrounding Supergirl. Nevertheless, DC Studios appears to be moving ahead with plans to introduce its own version of Wonder Woman.
For now, the story, cast, and release date remain unknown. It’s also unclear how far the project has progressed, although its development signals that the DCU is looking to establish another major superhero franchise.
The Brave and the Bold
Fans waiting for another trip to Gotham City will have to keep an eye on The Brave and the Bold. The upcoming Batman film is expected to introduce a new version of the Caped Crusader alongside his biological son, Damian Wayne.
Unlike previous big-screen Batman stories, the movie will bring the Bat-Family into the new DCU, giving audiences a chance to see Bruce Wayne operating alongside Robin and other members of his extended family.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti and screenwriter Christina Hodson have been linked to the project, although its production timeline remains uncertain. With Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part 2 arriving first, the DCU’s Batman reboot is still some way from reaching theaters.
Swamp Thing
Clayface won’t be DC Studios’ last venture into horror. Swamp Thing is also part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters and is expected to explore the dark origins of the plant-based creature.
James Mangold, the filmmaker behind Logan and Ford v Ferrari, is attached to write and direct the movie. His involvement has raised expectations for a darker, more atmospheric take on the character.
For a while, the lack of updates led some fans to wonder whether Swamp Thing had been shelved. However, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran recently confirmed that the project was still moving forward.
The studio is reportedly waiting for Mangold to deliver a new draft following his work on A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, the update suggests the horror project remains on the studio’s radar.
Teen Titans
Before shifting her attention to the Wonder Woman reboot, Ana Nogueira was working on a live-action Teen Titans movie. The project appears to have taken a back seat while she focuses on the Amazonian superhero, but there’s no indication that it has been cancelled.
One interesting possibility is the inclusion of Damian Wayne’s Robin as a central character. Rather than following the more familiar Dick Grayson or Tim Drake versions, the film could build its story around Bruce Wayne’s son.
The rest of the team hasn’t been confirmed, leaving plenty of room for speculation. Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Raven are among the characters fans would like to see in the lineup.
For now, the project remains in development, and details about its story, casting, and release date are still unavailable.
5 Upcoming Elseworlds Movies From DC Studios
While the main DCU builds a connected superhero universe, the Elseworlds banner allows filmmakers to explore different interpretations of DC characters without being tied to the central storyline.
Here are the five films currently on the slate.
Batman: Knightfall Part 2 and Part 3
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation have begun adapting the famous Knightfall storyline into an animated trilogy. The first instalment, Batman: Knightfall – Part 1: Knightfall, introduced audiences to the brutal conflict between Batman and Bane.
The second chapter, Knightquest, is expected to arrive later in 2026, followed by KnightsEnd in 2027.
Anson Mount voices Bruce Wayne, while Michael Mando lends his voice to Bane. After the villain famously breaks Batman’s back in the first instalment, the story shifts toward Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, who takes on the mantle of the Dark Knight. Pablo Schreiber is set to return as the character.
The remaining chapters will continue exploring the consequences of Batman’s defeat and the struggle to reclaim his identity and role in Gotham City.
The Batman: Part 2
Most Anticipated DC Films: The Batman: Part 2. Robert Pattinson is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part 2, due to hit screens on February 18, 2028 – six years after the first film.
The sequel is expected to introduce several major new characters, with Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry among the reported additions. Their exact roles and connections to Gotham’s criminal underworld remain a major talking point.
Reeves is returning to direct the film, although the production has also faced scheduling changes. Steven Soderbergh has reportedly been involved in helping with the production following Reeves’ temporary absence for personal reasons.
Despite the long wait, the sequel remains one of DC Studios’ biggest upcoming releases. Fans are eager to see how Reeves expands his grounded version of Gotham and which villains will challenge Pattinson’s Batman next.
Dynamic Duo
Another DC movie scheduled for 2028 is Dynamic Duo, which will be released on September 22, 2028, as Batman: Part 2.
Dynamic Duo, an animated film featuring two of the film’s younger characters, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd who both become the Robin to a young Batman, is set to release on the streets of Gotham.
One of the innovative elements of Dynamic Duo is the approach to the film’s animation. While most current computer generated animation is based on traditional methods, Dynamic Duo is to be shot as Momo animation, which combines elements of puppetry, stop motion and CGI.
The approach is expected to give the film a distinct visual identity, setting it apart from other superhero animated movies. With its focus on two different versions of Robin, the film could also offer a fresh perspective on the Batman mythology.
Constantine 2
Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as John Constantine in the sequel to the 2005 movie Constantine, to be written by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Francis Lawrence. Constantine 2 has been in development for years.
The years of pre-production have taken their time, reportedly largely because of the difficulty in getting a good enough script. Reeves has reportedly been unhappy with several versions.
Also set to reprise a role from the first film is Peter Stormare as Lucifer.
A recent report suggested that Constantine 2 could be further along in development than some other DC projects. However, the sequel is still awaiting an official greenlight, and there’s no confirmed release date.
If it moves forward, the film will continue Constantine’s supernatural adventures, bringing the demon hunter back into a world filled with dark magic, dangerous bargains, and forces beyond human understanding.

What’s Next for DC Studios?
For now, DC Studios has many projects coming, including six films part of the main DCU and five Elseworlds projects, such as Man of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold, The Batman: Part 2 and Constantine 2.
However, not every project has a confirmed release date, and some are still in the early stages of development. The next few years should reveal which films move ahead first and how James Gunn’s wider plans for DC take shape.
