History was made in the heart of London as Leicester Square unveiled a stunning bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge – marking the first-ever Indian Film to be honoured at the iconic square and in true Bollywood fashion, the moment came wrapped in pure magic: it was raining.
Both SRK and Kajol were present for the inauguration, umbrellas in hand, smiles brighter than ever. Kajol, during her conversation with BBC, pointed out the poetic coincidence: “SRK’s introduction in DDLJ was in the rain…and today, as the statue is unveiled, it’s raining again.” As if the universe was paying tribute to the timeless romance that has lived in people’s hearts for almost three decades.
Adding to the serendipity, Shah also pointed out that her kids showed up in outfits that unintentionally echoed the film – Her daughter wearing a Traditional Salwar Kameez and Her son wearing a Black Leather Jacket – mirroring the East Meets West essence that DDLJ has always celebrated.
DDLJ is not just a film – it’s a cultural movement. Switzerland named a train after the movie. Broadway adapted it into a New York stage musical. And in Mumbai, Maratha Mandir still screens DDLJ every Saturday, always with an audience – making it the longest-running film in Indian Cinema History.

Shah Rukh expressed that this enduring legacy isnt just about him and Kajol – it’s the result of Aditya Chopra’s vision, the team’s dedication and Yash Chopra’s blessing which continues to resonate across decades.
From Mustard Fields to London’s Cinematic Heart, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge stands immortal – not just as a film but as an emotion cast in bronze.
