Sunday usually means a day off for bank employees but September 27 turned out to be very different. As public sector banks and regional rural banks opened on Sunday ahead of the three-day bank strike, the situation quickly became meme material on X.
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) which represents seven bank unions and around eight lakh employees, has called a nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. An indefinite strike has also been threatened from October 26 if their demands are not resolved.
With the strike starting Monday, banks opened on Sunday to avoid a longer disruption for customers. But the sight of bank staff heading to work on a Sunday did not escape the internet.
Soon, X was flooded with memes showing the mood of employees who had to give up their Sunday.
One user, @sajcasm_, shared a crying meme captioned, “Bank employees getting ready for work on a Sunday,” perfectly capturing the frustration of losing a weekend holiday.
Another user, @abdul_tweets03, joked about the irony of bank employees who had been asking for a five-day work week now having to work on Sunday.

The memes quickly turned the unusual Sunday opening into a full-blown meme fest, with users adding their own takes on the situation.
For bank employees, however, the Sunday opening comes amid their larger demand for a five-day work week. For everyone else on X, it became another excuse to let the memes roll.
