About Dorothy
Dorothy stars Keerthy Suresh in the title role, alongside Sananth and Rishikanth. Set in rural Tamil Nadu in the early 1990s, the film follows two childhood friends whose bond is shaken by a compassionate woman who challenges the prejudice surrounding them. Years later, one of the friends is sent to find the other, setting off a journey that brings caste, violence and guilt into focus.
While the film is often described as a crime drama, friendship remains at the heart of its story. Ilaiyaraaja’s music also plays an important role, with the film marking his 1,540th musical project.
Dorothy, directed by Wendell Perry, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received moderate reviews upon its release in cinemas. While some of the reviews praised the unique approach the film took to tell its story, many felt that the movie’s message did not quite ring true.
