Shah Rukh Khan might have a BIG surprise lined up for fans and it could mean double the action at the box office. According to sources close to the development, SRK’s upcoming film King is being considered for a two-part release with the possibility of the second instalment arriving just months after the first.
YoTainment exclusively learnt that the team is exploring the idea following the success of Dhurandhar, which has sparked fresh conversations around splitting big films into multiple instalments. However, no final decision has been made yet.
Shah Rukh Khan’s King: Why Two Parts?
According to sources close to development, Shah Rukh Khan, director Siddharth Anand and the team have discussed the possibility of releasing King in two parts. However, they are also considering whether it would be better to wrap up the story in a single film rather than stretch it into a second installment. The film reportedly has around 4 to 4 hours and 15 minutes of footage, enough to potentially support a two-part release. If the makers decide against that plan, they could trim the runtime to approximately 2 hours and 30 to 45 minutes for a single theatrical release.
For now, the two-part strategy remains under consideration, and the final decision is expected to depend on how the film takes shape in the editing room. That has led to discussions about whether the story should be divided into two parts to give the characters and their backstories more room to breathe.
The idea could allow the makers to explore the villains in greater detail and give more depth to Suhana Khan’s character, including her childhood. Both instalments are reportedly shot, although the final release plan will depend on the edit.
King Release Date: When Could Part 2 Arrive?
King is currently scheduled to release in theatres on December 24, 2026. If the two-part plan moves forward, the second instalment could arrive in 2027, with March and the third quarter of the year both being discussed in reports.
The team is also reportedly considering overseas premieres for both parts. However, the release timeline remains uncertain, and the makers have yet to officially confirm the split.
As a source told YoTainment, the final call will be made during editing, depending on whether the footage works better as one film or two.
