Fans have been wondering for months whether The Penguin would return for a second season. Now, a new update suggests that the acclaimed DC series may have reached the end of its run.
Created by Lauren LeFranc, The Penguin premiered on HBO in 2024 as a spin-off to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The series followed Oswald “Oz” Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, as he navigated Gotham’s criminal underworld in the aftermath of the film’s events. Alongside Farrell, the show featured standout performances from Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, and several others.
Although the series was originally designed as a limited event, its massive popularity sparked constant speculation about a potential second season. Both fans and members of the creative team had expressed interest in revisiting the world of Gotham, fueling hopes that HBO and DC might continue the story.
However, according to industry insider Jeff Sneider, that may no longer be on the table. Sneider recently reported that HBO and DC are not planning to move forward with The Penguin Season 2, meaning the series is expected to remain a one-season limited show.
So far, neither HBO nor DC Studios has officially addressed the report. While that leaves a small window for surprises, there is currently no indication that a second season is in development.
The silver lining for fans is that Colin Farrell’s Penguin isn’t disappearing from Gotham anytime soon. The character is expected to return in The Batman: Part II, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Directed once again by Matt Reeves, the sequel will see Robert Pattinson return as Bruce Wayne, with Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, and Scarlett Johansson also attached to the project.

For now, it appears that The Penguin will stand as a self-contained chapter in Reeves’ growing Batman universe, even if many viewers were hoping there was more story left to tell.
The Penguin is currently streaming on HBO Max.
